Notes: Greuze made more than one version of this study which, while related to his painting of 1777, "The Return of the Prodigal Son", now in the collection of The Hermitage in St. Petersburg, is not really preparatory for it, but rather a "tête d’expression", a study intended to represent a particular emotional condition.
Inscriptions/Markings: Inscribed in pencil at lower right, "Greuze".

Skippy was an American comic strip written and drawn by Percy Crosby that was published from 1923 to 1945. A highly popular, acclaimed and influential feature about rambunctious fifth-grader Skippy Skinner, his friends and his enemies.
Percy Leo Crosby (1891 – 1964) was an American author, illustrator and cartoonist best known for his popular comic strip Skippy.
A Brooklyn artist, life Magazine illustrator attended Art Student League Art, Pratt Institute and exhibited in London, New York, Paris and Rome and in permanent collections of several museums.
