The following academic charcoal studies,
drawn on newsprint, were all created by students in the classes of GeorgeBridgman, who taught anatomy and figure drawing at The Arts Student League in
New York. Many of these scans were borrowed from the illustration art blog, which
has a nice article on Bridgman.
Bridgman was an instructor at the League
for 45 years and was presumed to have taught 70,000 students. His influence on
illustrators and fine artists over the generations is incalculable.
His teachings continue through his figure
drawing books which are still in production and widely used. Every serious
figurative artist has a copy of one of his books on their bookshelf.
