Retta Scott
On the Trail Concept Art (Walt Disney, c. 1940s)
On the Trail Concept Art (Walt Disney, c.
1940s). This unproduced Disney film featured an American Indian
boy and his burro who explore the land outside their pueblo in the
Grand Canyon Region. The film was written about in the Charles
Solomon book The Disney That Never Was (Hyperion, 1995).
These never-before-seen painted character designs are from the hand
of Retta Scott, and showcase the secondary characters the boy would
meet on his travels. There is a rattlesnake, an American Indian
Road Runner, a Longhorn, and an American Indian Kachina named Kumbi
Nataka (based on the actual Kachina deity Kumbi Natacka). Gouache
and pastel on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper. Fantastic
character designs and in Fine condition. From the Retta Scott
Archives.
