monumental commission proposals we have the following project:
Displayed on top,we have a pencil sketch of the proposed sculpture. Also shown are pictures of
the maquette. A maquette is a small sculptural version of the finished sculpture.
In this case it was a colored plaster cast from a rubber mold taken from the
original clay maquette. This along with other material is reviewed by a
sculpture committee for possible approval. In many cases an edition of
bronze castings would be made of the maquette to enlist funds and to promote the
casting the larger version. Also seen here is a “photo-shopped” image
with a standard nonobservant pedestrian to give the committee sense of the
scale.
